WHAT DO YOU WANT TO SEE IN ALAMANCE?
Alamance County, like many of the 100 counties across the state of North Carolina, is experiencing a population shift from rural to urban environments. The small towns that serve as important infrastructural nodes for the rural fabric of the State face budget challenges as the tax-base leaves for jobs in larger cities. Finding funding and staffing for primary services like community banking, education, and healthcare is a dilemma that is quickly spreading as populations age, light-industrial jobs re-locate, and post-war infrastructure ages. In parallel to these rural struggles, the larger cities of the State face new urban planning challenges - how to provide infrastructure in urban fabrics that are not designed for large influxes of residents and workers, how to create a platform for different communities (old and new) to have a dialogue, how to meet current energy, transportation, healthcare, housing, and education needs while also planning for future challenges?
FLOCK DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURE believes that great solutions come from great communities and that great communities are built through both conversation and action. At 2017 Alamance Pride, we decided to start a conversation with our community about what they would like to see in their County and in their State. It is the start of a conversation that we hope will become much larger - that will find itself tangled in long-standing and newly created community conversations, that will find new voices, and stories and ideas and create new actions that will make our State stronger, more open, more innovative, and more connected.
